Easily the most asked question I've gotten all year. That and "pls firzt client sirr help me?" (Which I ignore) But this question just came in fresh this morning: Hi Alin, How large does an email list typically need to be to generate a decent profit? Roughly what percentage of your subscribers make a purchase each month? I currently have around 700 people on my list, but sales have been lower than I expected. I’m trying to understand whether I need to grow my list or improve what I’m offering. —Ray Shio Quick story: Earlier this year, I was talking to a creator who has an email list of 15,000 people. (Let’s call him Taco). Taco used to write daily emails. Once a year, Taco and I were in an affiliate contest selling this Twitter Growth Cohort that costs $500. And every single year, I’d sell 2-3x more than Taco. Even though my email list is 2-3x smaller. The same phenomenon happens every time Daniel Throssell is in an affiliate contest. He has about 10,000 email subscribers. And somehow continues to wipe the floor with people who have 100,000+ email subscribers. The same thing happens with Sensei Ben Settle. I remember a specific affiliate contest for Brian Kurtz Direct Response Titans Seminar. Ben had one of the smaller list going into that contest and beat the living daylights out of people who had 400,000+ on their email lists. Brian told that to Ben! He said, “I rarely see someone with such a responsive and rabid list!” The lesson here is… A SMALL BUT MIGHTY LIST CAN SELL!I am living proof of it. I have almost 6,000ish people on my list nowadays. (I’m about to go clean it up so likely gonna go back down to 4,500ish). But my email list has given me a six figure income every year for the last few years. Some people with 100,000 email subscribers can’t say that. The biggest difference between a list that buys and one that doesn’t is… CONTEXT CONGRUENCY.I’m gonna give you a free resource at the end of this video that will deep dive into this. But the gist is… Is the BAIT you use to get them on your list CONGRUENT with the BUY you want them to make? (There’s a caveat to this I’m gonna show you) So if you have 700 people on your list… …the first thing I want you to ask is... where did they come from? And what are you trying to get them to buy? For example, there are a ton of YouTube channels in the golf niche. If you filter their most popular videos, most of them are: — how to fix your slice — hit further drives — chip better shots Guess what I am gonna do to get all those views to join my email list? I’m gonna create three lead magnets. A workshop + tools to fix your slice, hit further drives and chip better shots. So now you have CONTEXT CONGRUENCY between your traffic and email subscribers. THEN WE CRANK THAT UP!Once I have them on a list… I’m gonna offer a product CONGRUENT with the problem that I baited them with. So if they joined my email list to fix their slice (which means their driver shot goes way right)... I’m gonna offer them an info-product on how to hit the ball further (because once they fix their slice the NEXT problem they will have is hitting the ball further… you see what I’m doing here? Solving one problem creates another! Your offers simply solve the NEXT problem in your customers journey). Or I’m gonna offer them personal coaching from me to fix their slice. Cause they may not trust themselves to do it alone. So even though they bought my info product on how to do it (a DIY offer)… … I can sell them a high ticket offer to get help (A DWY offer). And so on and so on. I can chop and slice this a hundred different ways… But the point I am trying to make is that if you have 700 people on your list who got there because of a certain big fat problem (bait) and your offer to solve that problem is congruent (buy)… THEN YOU WILL MAKE MORE SALES. PERIOD.The only caveat to this relational sales. Eventually, if you do it right, and email daily the way I do… Then you will get to the point with your subscribers that they simply trust you so much that you can sell anything and they would take your word for it. That’s why Ben Settle can sell a community for trading stocks. And why Daniel Throssell can sell a gym workout course. But I guarantee their highest selling offers are still the ones CONGRUENT with the problem your email list has right now. I created a video breaking down this exact process and how to implement it to grow your email list with buyers. CLICK THIS LINK HERE TO WATCH IT FOR FREE.Hope this helps a ton. If you get stuck and have follow up questions on this, just reply and I’ll help you. Your friend, Alin “Email Goat” Dragu
