Why Gen Alpha can't get clients


Here’s a throwback to one of my favorite scenes from Mad Men.

Peggy, one of the copywriters at the Sterling Draper advertising agency, walks into Don’s office.

(Don’s the head honcho. The big dawg runnin’ the show.)

But Peggy is pissed off.

Fuming…

She slams his office door.

Throws some papers on his desk and berates Don.

Because Don got an award for an ad that she helped with.

After she’s done pissin’ and moanin…

Don rips open…


DON: It’s your job! I give you money, you give me ideas.

PEGGY: And you never say “Thank you”

DON: That’s what the MONEY is for!

DON: You’re young, you will get your recognition.

DON: And honestly it is absolutely ridiculous to be two years into your career counting your ideas.

PEGGY: ** stares blankly… **

DON: EVERYTHING to you in an opportunity.

DON: And you should be thanking me every morning when you wake up along with Jesus for giving you another day!


Peggy sheds a tiny little tear.

Then buckles a 180 and walks out of his office.

No other words.

Cause she knows…

HE’S FREAKING RIGHT!

Peggy was begging for recognition and entitlement she hadn’t earned yet.

And that was in 60s before the internet and TikTok.

Can you imagine now today why Gen Z & Alpha are constantly chompin’ at the bit for their “fair share” when they haven’t earned jack squat?

There’s rules to the game.

Ways to win and ways to lose.
