I am reading this book by John Mark Comer called Garden City. And in it, he tells a story about a Graphic Designer named Frank Chimero. Frank was in New York City at a conference full of designers. And they decided to get Sushi one night for dinner. They went to this famous sushi restaurant called Momofuku. (There was even a Netflix documentary on these guys) It was one of those open layout restaurants where you could see the chef's cooking. Frank caught a glimpse of the Head Chef walking over to one of the Sous-Chefs. He saw the Sous-Chef clearly trying to cut a corner on the process. (Restaurant was packed. People waiting. Hard not to.) The Head Chef pulled him aside and said, β "We don't work like that here. We do things the long, hard, stupid way." β And right now, I just want to pull everybody on the internet to the side and ask them: "Have you tried it the long, hard, stupid way?" We have a culture so obsessed with efficiency, hacks, and shortcuts that rarely is anyone shipping something EXCELLENT. Especially with Copywriting. Prompt AI. Copy & paste. Ship and move on. But what if you handwrote 100 headlines, then picked the best one? What if you spend WEEKS (not hours) researching the problem you seek to solve? What if you rewrote the sales letter 19 times because it's not great yet? What if you did things the long, hard, stupid way when everybody else is lazy? Because the marketing world will change again. New tools. New methods. New desires. And when it does, and all these people know how to do is use AI prompts but have zero fundamentals or practice under their belt... They'll be left behind. But you will thrive. And if you wanna learn how to do things the long, hard, stupid way.
