Gooooood morning to my Happy Horde of Hellacious Copywriters š Iāve got a special one for ya today! Weāre going to be doing⦠š„ RAPID FIRE Q&A š„A few days ago, I posted this tweet: __ 5 years ago:
Today:
Ask me anything. __ Which got over 50+ questions. Here are some of the best ones + my answers =) Starting with⦠āwhat was the scariest part of leaving your vp jobāThe weight of knowing that no one else is gonna pay my check but me. I have a wife and three kids. They donāt eat unless I bust my caboose and bring in the cheddar. You truly donāt realize how much time people waste working their little 9-5 jobs until you go out your own. Think about⦠Donna from accounting wants to have āethicsā training. Jim calls random zoom meetings to get a āpulse checkā on the project (cause he's incompetent). You spend half your morning going through spam emails. And no one cares cause they still get a check next week. NOT IN MY HOUSE, MUTOMBO! Whenever Iām working⦠My only thought is: WILL THIS MAKE ME MONEY? If not, I set a plan to automate, delegate or eliminate it. Because no one else is gonna feed my kids but ME. āwhat was the first thing you sold, and how many people on that list were there when it happened?āNotion templates. Maybe 100 people on my list? I made like $300 ā which isnāt much but it was cool. Some people talk about having that āFirst Dollarā high⦠Where you make your first internet cash and youāre like⦠I didnāt have that 𤣠When I started this whole email business thing, I was already making good money from my VP job and client work. So $300 from Notion templates didnāt put lead in my pencil. But I knew I was playing the LONG GAME. Iād seen other businesses I helped scale make millions from their email list and knew I could do the same. They werenāt special. And they used MY skillset to do it. But they had better products and a big list. So I knew that was the problem to solve. It was just a few years later I did a $40K launch in 3 days with a 4,000 size list. Thatās the one that blew my freaking mind. When that happened⦠⦠I had that "OH š© MOMENT." Hahah. āHow do you handle the days you donāt feel like working?āThereās this story about Elijah in the bible. Heās on this mountain arguing with these heathen people fascinated by sin who claim their āgodā is THE god. Elijah is like, āAll cap. No rizz. My God is the only one BUSSIN.ā So the heathens challenge Elijah to a BATTLE. Our āgodā against your GOD. Long story short, Elijah prays down fire from the sky. The heathens āgodā is nowhere to be found⦠⦠then Elijah brings an army to slaughter the sinners. Bada bing bada boom! Greatest moment of his life! Then literally a day later⦠⦠Elijah is sitting under a tree running away from evil people trying to murder him. And he prays to God... āGod kill me. Like fr fr bro, Iām good. Just kill me. Iām so tired man. Iām burnt out. All my rizz is gone. Toast. Ya boy is out.ā Instead of killing Elijah⦠⦠God leads Elijah to a cave where heās like āHeres a bed and some steak. Eat and chill my guy.ā Elijah takes like four naps, kills a couple ribeyes⦠⦠maybe even has an old-fashioned or two. Then gets back to bidniz feelin' like a brand new man! The immoral of the story is⦠Thereās very few things in your life you canāt solve with a nap, steak and some chill time. If I am truly not āfeeling itā today⦠⦠Iāll go play some golf, grab a chipotle burrito, maybe stop by the coffee shop for an espresso⦠Come back home and try again later. āWhat is the single greatest lesson that has contributed to your growth thus far?āStatus. Wonāt explain. āHow important is identifying your ideal customer? The early adopter and customer willing to pay the premium to solve their problem today?āAre you asking me how important it is to understand the only people that pay your bills?ā¦.. ā¦. ⦠āDid you start with your own offer? Or doing client work? If it was your offer, whatās the quick overview from the niche, traffic source (where & how you built the list), the sales process (opt-in, flagship, upsells, and backend)?āI was doing client work way before I got into copywriting. I had a design agency. My best friend and I did websites & logos. By the time I started writing copy ā I was burnt out on client work. Hated it. So I jumped into copywriting with my own offer. My first niche was productivity (hence the Notion templates). Traffic source was entirely TWITTER. I wrote tweets ā bribed with a lead magnet (free Notion templates) ā upsold more Notion templates. I could have scaled the mess out of that but honestly⦠⦠I didnāt enjoy it very much. Making Notion templates didnāt fire me up. But funnels fired me up! That was the only thing I enjoyed about selling the templates lol I liked seeing what tweets got the most leads⦠which lead magnets converted the highest⦠which emails sold the most⦠which sales pages ripped the hardest⦠So I just started talking about that stuff. Which leads back to some ancient wisdom: The journey reveals itself by simply taking the next step. Did I think Iād be in the marketing niche? Not really. But I got there because I took a step to sell Notion templates on Twitter and it eventually led me down a rabbit hole to where I am today. Everybody tries to āmap outā their whole journey of life when really⦠Just do the next thing you wanna do! Then let that thing lead to the next thing. And so on. Often times, your curiosity will take you further than your planning. ALRIGHT THATS ENOUGH!I hope you enjoy this one š If you have a question youād like answered by Yours Truly⦠I am curating the TEN best questions that will be featured on my Email List AND YouTube Channel. I will also include your name to give you some clout =) So fire them off by simply replying to this email! I will also AWARD the best question with a very special product gift from me. So donāt dilly dally. Ask away! Your copywriting pal, Alin āRapid Fire Friendā Dragu
