This morning, I went to the local coffee shop near my vacation villa here in 30A, Florida. I ran out of beans at my place… …otherwise I’d be making my own pour over instead of paying $9 for theirs! 😅 (Yes, I bring my entire Chemex kit to vacation — I almost brought my Espresso Machine!) I walk up to the counter… “One pour over, light roast — and a latte, whole milk, no flavoring.” “You got it. Give us just a minute to get them out.” “Sure.” “Cash or tap?” “I’ll tap.” She flips her little iPad screen around and says, “It’ll ask you a question.” It did not ask me a question. It just said… “ADD A TIP.”No question mark. My options were: -- 20% -- 25% -- 30% -- Custom Amount -- No Tip She stood there awkwardly looking at me with her wildly oversized sweater draping off her body (in 101 degree florida weather…) I look at her. Then look at the screen. Then back at her. Then back at the screen. 👀 She stands there waiting… giving me a glare that she believes will guilt me into tapping what seems to be an enormous amount to add your coffee bill… …BEFORE EVEN TASTING THE COFFEE!As she’s doing her best to make this as awkward as possible… My mind begins to go through a series of thoughts (that could very well be holding up the line behind me). I start to wonder… When did we start tipping for coffee? Isn’t there profit margins built into the $23 bill for two coffees?? And come to think of it… when I went flew to Texas a couple of weeks ago… the kiosk where I checked my bag in asked for a tip… a kiosk… not even a human! A freaking machine! And two days ago when I picked up a sandwich from the Jimmy John’s drive-thru, they asked for a tip too! WHY IS EVERYONE ASKING FOR TIPS FOR DOING THEIR JOB!?Can you imagine if I started adding pop-ups asking for a tip at the end of my funnels? “Thank you for buying Client Casanova for $27… how much tip would you like to add? 25%? 30%? 50%? I worked really hard to write it and I’m sure you wanna tip me for the hard work I did!” Come to think of it… 😏 Thats not… the worst… I IMMEDIATELY SNAP BACK INTO REALITY! Click “No Tip” and moved away from the counter. I’m sure sweater chick gave me some sort of eye roll or spat in my coffee. But it just didn’t feel right to give money for something that: — should be paid by for your employer — built into the cost of the profit (aka why the coffee is $23…) — earned through excellent service and experience — asked for AFTER you have delivered that excellent service and experience LIKE THIS…When I go out to dinner with my wife to have a nice steak… … our waiter works hard to bring our drinks, be kind, explain the menu, and make sure the experience we have is excellent. Then at the end of the dinner… it asks for a tip! Which I graciously tip AT LEAST 25% FOR GREAT SERVICE! I do the same for my Uber driver (again… a service derived on excellence… asked for after the experience…) And for my hotel concierge… and the guy that cleans my car… or cut my wife's hair... BECAUSE THAT IS A SERVICE THAT DETERMINES THE QUALITY OF THE EXPERIENCE.Me tipping you for a drive-thru sandwich makes zero sense. That’s not a service. That’s labor and parts, my guy. Economics 101. Not to mention… I haven’t TRIED the sandwich! How do I even know what to tip you? What if you got my order wrong? What if the coffee sucks? I’m happy to pay fat money for great products, great experiences & great service. But I’m not falling for this Gen Alpha entitlement tipping culture that’s being built. I’m of the… EARN IT MENTALITY!And I truly believe that anyone who develops that “earn it” mentality will make farrrrr more money than the iPad flippers at Starbucks. Especially if you’ve got clients. Which is exactly what I show you how to do inside of Client Casanova… 👇 55 Rules to Make Your Clients Love You, Pay You & Refuse To Hire Any Other Copywriter… But You.Snag that up and I guarantee you’ll make a ho’ bunch more money than your measly $27 investment. But make sure to wait until the end of the funnel so my new pop-up tip page can trigger you for more cash. Your friend, Alin “Earns His Cashola” Dragu
