Every Tuesday night, after my 5-year-old son’s Karate class… I drive the entire family across the street to a place called Meeple Madness. It’s this huge board game & card store. They have at least 20+ massive tables around the entire store. The walls are lined with board games & card games! You can grab whatever game you want off the wall, grab a table and just start playing it. And if you don’t know how to play, the staff will teach you. And Tuesday night is Pokémon night! And let me tell you… The place is jam packed! From kids to teenagers to adults, there is at least 100+ people at Meeple! They battle against each other. Trade cards. Buy cards. Sometimes all the way up to midnight! My kids love Pokémon so they geek out with their friends for a couple hours before we call it quits and force them home haha. But every time we’re in there, I always whisper to my wife... “This is cool. Look at all these people just kickin’ it old school.” ❌ No iPads. ❌ No TVs. ❌ No internet. ❌ No AI. You can have transported us to the 90s, and you wouldn’t know! And ya know what… I bet these guys are looking forward to Tuesday night every single day of the week. They can’t wait to get back into Meeple, see their friends, and geek around their Pokémon obsession. It’s kinda funny because I remember during COVID, all these “experts” would speculate that in-person would never be the same again. People wouldn’t gather like they used to. Arenas would be torn down. Concerts would never fill again. Blah blah blah! Just a few years later, where are those experts? Lonely as hell scrolling TikTok. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my 32 years of life is this: Never bet against human connection. If you find something people love and build a community around it, they will gather. This is the thing most entrepreneurs miss. They focus on the product, instead of the people. But if you start with:
You build a community around it. And from there, you can create products that serve that community. Not because you’re a greedy business fiend. But because you want to help the community. And they would be happy to pay you because the products you sell genuinely make them happier. Do you think I get mad at Meeple Madness selling me board games and Pokémon cards? No. We happily buy them! “Thanks! Loved the last game. Can’t wait to try the next one.” There’s no fear-mongering. There’s no “Oh, I feel bad selling.” Because it’s community first. Anywho. I’m rambling a bit, but it’s been on my mind lately. Put this to the test in your own business. What community of PEOPLE do you serve? Hope that helps.
