Email Copywriting

Did all the daily email hype boys quit?

Yesterday, I had some veryyyyyyy interesting conversations on Twitter about “daily emails.”

Which... side note...

I haven’t tweeted “content” in a while.

I’ve gone ol’ school Twitter and treat it like a “think out loud” space. I’ll ask questions I’m genuinely curious about. Or post about something that worked in my business to get feedback. Or share something cool I found.

It honestly sounds really stupid writing this out.

But the “off the dome” tweets put me in some amazing conversations this week.

Like this one.

I tweeted this:

“So many “daily email” guys have quit. Anyone else still mailing daily?”

Here are some interesting replies…

One guy said:

Daily is quite old now. It just gets too tedious for the receiver. Once or twice a week is fine now

My reply:

Every daily email gets old to everyone? Even though Tech Brew, Daily Dad, Seth Godin, Golf Digest, Morning Brew and hundreds of other lists email to millions of people everyday?

Lesson:

Don't project your mid experience on everyone.

People want what they’re super interested in.

Why do you think ESPN talks about college football 365 days a year… or gamers stream every night on Twitch… or book nerds post on TikTok daily…

Emailing has nothing to do with tedious or trendy or whatever other bull crap you wanna inject there.

Are you writing about something people care about!?

Are you entertaining them?

DO YOU UNDERSTAND?

Here’s another reply:

only the important updates

My reply:

You’re only emailing people UPDATES!?

😶 🔫

Hear me when I say that anyone writing stories via email is ahead of 99% of people…

Try this reply on for size:

I tried it once and almost died of stress. Not advisable, unless you’re just a curator

My reply:

If it’s not therapeutic for you, you’re doing it the wrong way.

___

I can guarantee you that what happened to this guy is he got told by some Internet Idiot online that he can make a ton of money writing daily emails.

So he eyes lit up like this…

🤑🤑🤑

Didn't think about being someone worth hearing from.

Or what problem he can solve for people.

Or the people he wants to serve.

Just thought…

CASH CASH CASH!

So then he follows down the traditional path of trying to provide a butt ton of non sense value by prompting Claude Diddly.

No one replies.

No one buys.

He hates it.

Burns out.

Quits.

Almost “dies of stress”

(Stop it, son. Grow a pair)

And then tells all his butt buddies that it’s a terrible idea.

ON THE FLIP SIDE…

I started a conversation with Sam Ocean.

The Daddy of YouTube and a Direct Response Marketer.

Here’s how that went…

SAM:

Here’s a question I’ve asked a few people.

Still a but unsure on it.

Everything I write just seems like it’s better for social rather than email, due to algorithmic discovery.

I’d like to have something uniquely for email so there’s an incentive. Right now, it’s my weekly build in public updates which I USED to post publicly and those did well too.

Everything I think of for email… I convince myself to just do it for social.

ALIN:

Sam, as someone who recently joined your list… has a massive desire to grow on YouTube… and wants to see someone like you teach me how you do it…

I wish you emailed more often.

Genuinely.

Even if they were tiny short 100-200 stories:

  • Here’s what I did to build my agency / YT today
  • Here’s what I learned

I’d eat it up everyday.

SAM:

Short yet profound thanks Alin.

Let me screenshot this and see if I can shift my mindset around it. I know it’s tactical, but would I publish those on social media too? Or doesn’t matter if I do/don’t?

ALIN:

I’d write the email first then publish on social media a few days later.

It gives you email list (most important relationships) an opportunity to hear from you first.

And it gives them an opportunity to reply.

Which could actually give you MORE FODDER for social media content.

It’s like an infinity loop of content.

Experience → Story → Conversation → Content → Experience and so on.

I wanna zoom in real quick on one thing…

Sam is someone worth hearing from.

And he's doing something everyday that solves a problem I’m interested in solving.

Growing on YouTube.

That gives him the authority to email daily.

Because he’s working on it daily.

It’s these jabronis who ain’t doing jack squat about solving their own problems that get “writers block” and “die of stress.”

Daily email becomes easy when your email is simply the sawdust of what you’re building.

Write that down.

Tattoo it on your gluteus assimus.

And for God Sakes start an email list.
