It’s 1:17PM. I pull a fresh shot of afternoon espresso… … add a splash of steamed milk to it and back to my desk to write more sensational copy! I am on a roll, baby! I’m currently 4,000+ words into writing a brand new Chronicles newsletter for my CopyCreator Club when I get a random Facebook Message… What’s up, dude! Saw your post in ClickFunnels group and realized you’re in Atlanta and know [name redacted] and [name redacted]. Just looking to connect with cool people / marketers in the area. Have a great day! Hmmm. I typically wouldn’t respond but the mutual friends he name dropped are really great friends… So I typed with quick little message back. ALIN: Hey man, good to meet you. Great mutual. What do you do my man? JOE RANDOM: Yeah, those guys are great. I’m into copywriting, email marketing & funnels. You? ALIN: Ha! Of course. Me too. Little same exact thing. Shoot me your website, I’ll check you out. THEN HE SENDS ME HIS WEBSITE 😶It looks like this. Aaaaaand I bet you had the same thought I had the second I saw it. “Generic AI slop.” The headline. The design. The copy. Now I don’t know this guy from Peter to Paul. He may be one of the best copywriters on the planet. Who knows. He claims to have generated $54M for his clients. Did he really generate $54M? Does it matter? Or does the fact that I perceived his business instantly as “generic AI slop” now matter more than the $54M claim???? [☝️read that again and think about it] Especially somebody who claims to be a copywriter but clearly had ChatGPT write all this copy. Either way…It’s something I’ve been thinking about lately because almost the exact same thing happened to me the other day. I got an email from a fantastic copywriter who I’ve bought tons of stuff from. They were running a brand spankin’ new hawt promo that I was super excited about… … until I got to the sales page. It was clearly designed by AI. And immediately my mind thought, “low effort.” The copy was fine (I think?) but my perception had already been pissed on. SO I STARTED PONDERING 🤔How many freshly pressed green Benjamin’s are being left on the table because High-Paying Players With Money (like Yours Truly) are seeing AI designs, content and ads and immediately think… “If this is the effort they put into their marketing, I can only expect the same effort from their products and services.” I realize I am in a very sophisticated market like Copywriting where as you’re not going to have the same level of AI-Perception if you were selling Sunglasses or Widgets to normies… … but do you really not think that market will get there soon? Regardless, an even better question is… DO YOU THINK THIS NEW AI DESIGN AND COPY CONVERTS HIGHER SALES THAN A CLASSIC, SIMPLE, UGLY SALES PAGE?I bet your bottom dollar it doesn’t. In fact, I can almost guarantee you it doesn’t. it’s one of the reasons I still design sales pages LIKE THIS 👈 Highly recommend reading that, studying that, putting it in your swipe file and if it titillates you enough… … buying from it 🙂 Your friend, Alin “Sells With Ugly Design & Sexy Copy” Dragu P.S. I’m genuinely curious… what are your thoughts on AI design / landers, etc? Have you seen a dip in your conversion rates? Increased sales? Have you caught yourself ignoring AI design? Being attracted to it? Reply and let me know.
