A couple of days ago — I read this email from my friend, John Bejakovic. Here’s what he said: Last August, a well-known course creator in the copywriting and email marketing space sent me a message that said, in part: === Lately it feels like there’s a secret “Thou Shalt Not Buy From [dude’s name]” commandment that’s been floating around and I’m not sure how to fix it. (Kidding, sort of. It’s just that course sales have been waaaaaaaay down) They dropped off big around March. There was piracy, which certainly didn’t help, but I mostly think it was my audience getting crushed by the robots. They got scared and stopped buying, even when I offered exactly what they said they wanted. === I have heard the same message since, from a few other list owners I know. Some have seen gradual declines in course sales. Others have seen things drop off a cliff over past 2-3 months. Has selling courses become a a problem for you? Here’s my honest (but correct) take. First let’s distill a few of these theories… “There was piracy” There’s been piracy since 1996. “it was my audience getting crushed by the robots.” What robots? AI that's been out for 4 years? Meaning people using Claude to write emails and offers that are outselling yours? “They got scared and stopped buying, even when I offered exactly what they said they wanted.” Buyers are liars. Look at what they’ve BOUGHT, not what they SAY they want. __ Listen. I have no idea who this well known course creator and copywriter is. I'm not trying to throw stones at him/her but that argument is completely flawed. Here is what’s actually happening… THE CULTURE IS CHANGING THE WAY IT WANTS TO LEARN.Stop looking at YOURSELF and look at the MARKET!!!! How are YOUR PEOPLE spending THEIR TIME & MONEY TODAY? I can tell you right now it’s less and less on courses because… *They’ve bought a hundred of them that they never consumed (let alone APPLIED) *They been duped by at least half the courses they bought (crap content & quality) *Courses are generalized and static — most don’t speak to the specific problems and circumstances of the person consuming it… Which makes courses in 2026 a WAY RISKIER investment.(Especially when most people sellin’ them care more about the sales more than SERVING the people the course is supposed to help) Which is exactly why almost a year ago, I made a plan to PIVOT away from courses. Because if the market doesn’t want them, focus on what they DO want. “You cannot create desire, only channel existing desire” — Eugene Schwartz Right??????? And that’s exactly what I did by launching CopyCreator Club. A COMMUNITY on Skool. Where I drop fresh content DAILY. People can ask questions to their SPECIFIC problems. That can TALK to people navigating the same stuff. I can update COURSE material inside of the community ON THE FLY. It’s always fresh, adapting, and never stagnant. And ya know what, muchacho?I’ve almost 70 people in there PAYING EVERY MONTH to keep access to that community. And it keeps growing. There’s a reason Skool is one of the biggest growing platforms in the world right now. Why Alex Hormozi spent millions to acquire it. And why people are investing in COMMUNITIES more than courses.
